A soft hazy IPA full of tropical and dank character

[Character]
A wheat and oat heavy malt bill makes up the soft base for this Hazy IPA. Big resinous hops with a blend of berry, Pineapple, and tropical fruit flavors, this beer is full in flavour but low in bitterness.
[Food Pairing]
Spice and herb-heavy lamb burritos, fried shrimp topped with mango-infused sweet chili, cream cheese mixed with garlic and fried onion
[Naming]
When reading beer descriptions of beers that feature hops from either America or New Zealand, you’ll inevitably stumble across the word ‘dank’. But what the heck does that actually mean?

Some people would attribute words like “resinous, earthy and pungent”, and this unique profile, despite often being likened to the smell of cannabis, is generally considered a desirable character in hop forward beer styles like IPAs. Dankness can add depth to fruity and bitter characteristics to create a complex, multifaceted flavour profile.

So... what does it actually taste like??

To answer that question head-on, we present a two-part Dank IPA series: “Nanja” and “Monja”.

[Brewer's Voice]
For the second in our "Dank IPA" two part mini-series, we went in the hazy direction. In East Coast fashion, we kept the bitterness low, and went with a wheat and oat heavy blend in the malt bill, giving it a pillowy soft body. A mixture of malted, flaked, and naked oats and wheat were used to layer the effect. We mashed this grain a bit hotter than we normally would, extracting unfermentable dextrins, giving the beer even more body, with a touch of sweetness thanks to the beer's higher finishing gravity. Maris Otter was used as the base malt, giving the beer a nice golden pale colour, and aiding haze. Speaking of haze, a blend of Strata and Nectaron make up the hop bill, focusing on late addition hops to keep the bitterness low, and bringing out the aroma. The combination of Strata and Nectaron is a favourite of ours, coming together to give a nice resin and pineapple character. An aroma of sweet fruit and cannabis hits the nose first, with flavours of overripened pineapple rounding everything out, with the overall effect being that this beer is surprisingly drinkable for its overwhelming hop load. This beer was fermented warmer with London ale yeast giving the beer a stable haze, and supporting the fruitiness thanks to the nice yeast esters produced. It goes for all good hoppy beers, but we especially recommend you enjoy this sticky, resinous, and overripened pineapple flavoured dank IPA while it’s at is freshest!
