A supremely refreshing sour cherry and lime sour ale

[Character]
Sour cherries and lime juice come together with a heavy wheat base to make this Berliner Weisse light, refreshing, and flavourful. The lime and cherries give the beer a medium sourness, while the wheat give the beer body and mouthfeel to support the fruit flavors.

[Naming]
The name is taken loosely from "Sakurambo", the Japanese name for cherries, shortened into a type of nickname that has a nuance of roundness and some upbeat summery playfulness, which is the atmosphere in which we think this beer is best enjoyed!
[Brewer's Voice]
Inspired by a popular summer drink called cherry limeade, which is essentially a lemonade but made with limes instead lemons, and with the addition of cherries. This sweetness from the cherries helps balance out the sourness from the limes, and results in a refreshing drink, perfect for the summertime heat. When looking at what beer style we wanted to adapt it to, we thought the Berliner Weisse would be a great fit. The Berliner Weisse is a traditionally simple but refreshing German sour ale, that is often served with a flavoured syrup to help liven it up. While woodruff syrup is the most common, cherry syrup and even lime syrup are also used. This beer started out as a classic Berliner Weise consisting of a malt bill that is about half made of wheat malt, and we kept the hop additions minimal to keep fruit as the main feature of the beer. Breaking from tradition, however, a small amount of Motueka was added for its lime-like citrus aromas to complement the lime juice. Fermented on some Lime and cherry juice, the beer has an attractive pinkish red hue, bright citrus aromas, and a refreshingly tart flavour. The wheat base gives the beer a slightly hazy appearance but also softens up the beer to let the fruit shine, and stops it from being too thin. Finished off with an above average amount of carbonation to help give it a slightly spritzy character, this is a beer of relatively simple construction but loaded with flavor. This beer will definitely be a go-to for us over the next couple of months!
