[Naming]
The original meaning of a "Sharaku", or "Sharakumono" is essentially the character or personality in a public place who gets attention through their being an entertainer, being funny, a good storyteller, or generally charismatic. This type of person is exactly the type you might find in a British pub, creating atmosphere at the bar, and so we felt this a good fit for such a beer, who we hope will be the life of a few parties!
[Brewer's Voice]
For the second of our 2 classic English beers we wanted to do a beer that would both compliment and be distinctly different from the ESB. For this we went with an Imperial porter. This imperial porter has a much stronger malt profile utilizing a blend of roasted and highly kilned malts to give the beer not only its color, but a wonderful chocolate and toffee character. In addition to those malts, a hefty amount of wheat and oats was used to give the beer a soft and pillowy mouthfeel. Mildly hopped with East Kent Goldings hops as well to give the beer some stability and to balance out the malt sweetness. This beer is designed to not only be able to be served in a classic pub environment just as the ESB, but also be a bit of a treat to end the night on. Don’t let the drinkability fool you, at 8.5% ABV this beer is definitely a treat and packs quite the punch on its own. I am looking forward to drinking one of these alongside some vanilla Mochi to treat myself after a hard days work!
