[Naming]

The Rokkasen series' concept is based around taking a fruit and expressing it in an IPA form, with the addition of fruit. The naming convention for the individual products literally refers to "果" ("ka") meaning fruit, and then a character representing the fruit or character. This time it is "熱" ("netsu"), meaning "hot", "fever" or "passion", alluding to the tropical passionfruit that inspired this beer.

[Brewer's Voice]

The fourth edition of our Rokkasen series is passionfruit, a curious fruit known for its acidity and intoxicating aroma that immediately brings one to the tropics. We added this to a hazy IPA, given that it felt only right to have it work with the tropical notes of the hops, but also kept it sessionable, in light of the fact it is a mid summer beer, and one we imagine enjoying outside in the sun.

For this beer, we didn't want to sacrifice drinkability, and so went with Cascade and Simcoe hops in the mash and boil, as well as hops that are known for thiol extraction to bring passionfruit and guava like aromas to the base beer. This then further adds to the character of the passionfruit puree, and then we rounded it out with stonefruit notes from Talus and Strata hops, as well as Citra, on the cold side.

We went for moderate bitterness, and slightly higher gas to aid the crispness. A perfect drink for enjoying on its own, or with summer ingredients for some nice al fresco dining.
