Unlike its stronger brethren, there is an abbey beer relatively unknown in the wider world. The Belgian "single" has been made for centuries at monasteries but yet has always remained a relative secret, a "Monk's Reserve", as it were, made by the monks, for the monks. Perhaps you can enjoy this "Brewer's Reserve" while picturing a monk centuries ago raising his glass toward his lips once more, taking in the aroma before he says, "maybe we keep this one to ourselves..."
[Brewer's Voice]
Our Rediscovery series focuses on traditional Belgian beers, but adding just enough of a Japanese twist to make it different and unique to KBC.

As with last year, we looked to Hokkaido-grown Cascade hops to give the beer a unique character. A little more herbal and a little less citrusy than their US counterparts, the hops give the beer a slightly bitter balance and lean the flavor profile towards classic European hops without being overly so. Refermentation in the can and keg give the beer its carbonation and tight, long lasting white head.

While there aren't too many monasteries in Japan, if they brewed beer with locally available ingredients, we think this may be close to what they would have been drinking.
