Donation for a cause

Kyoto Brewing is going to be donating proceeds from the sale of our teiban set throughout the entirety of August towards the people of Belgium who have been afflicted by the devastation wrought by flooding.

For the past 3 weeks, the region close to the Belgian-German border has been getting inundated with unprecedented levels of rain. The results have been catastrophic as houses have been flattened, villages destroyed and lives lost. The current situation in Western Europe is being described as one of the worst natural disasters to hit the area in more than two centuries. Unlike Japan, which is particularly vulnerable to natural disasters with the annual typhoon season and countless earthquakes, for an area unaccustomed to this much rain, the infrastructure could not deal with this much rainfall and that has only exacerbated the situation.

For us at KBC, Belgium is a very special place.

It starts with “Ichigo Ichie”, our year round Saison. It then continues through all of our year round offerings as all three beers feature yeast that originally hails from Belgium. More importantly, Belgium is a country steeped in brewing tradition and for many of our brews, we look towards the country for inspiration. Belgium is entwined in our DNA and we’ve been lucky to not only have done a collaboration with a Belgian brewery (thank you Brussels Beer Project), we’ve also been able to head there and experience the country and culture ourselves.

With the above in mind, despite the current hardship associated with all things Corona, we decided we’d like to play our small part in donating money towards restoration.

In this case, we’re going to be donating 100% of the proceeds in Aug from our teiban sets. After consulting with the Belgian Embassy in Tokyo, we were directed to donating directly to the Belgian-arm of the Red Cross.

Back in 2011, after the Great East Japan Earthquake, Japan received a lot of donations and provisions from many countries including Belgium. Via our year round beer, you can help make a contribution.

We look to keep you up-to-date on the results.
