Originally released at the beginning of 2017, we re-release Miyuki every Winter as the beer is a great showcase for the variety of flavour components from its main ingredients. The nose is dominated by spicy banana-like yeast aromas that are a perfect companion to the traditional spicy and earthy character of East Kent Goldings hops. The large portion of wheat malt means the beer is quite refreshing, and our house Belgian yeast consumed just enough of the sugar to keep it dry and drinkable. At 8% it is dangerously so, and we recommend sipping this beer slowly at a warm bar on a cold Kyoto night.
Naming: The idea for Miyuki (meaning "Deep Snow") originally came up as the weather was cooling off in November. We decided that we wanted something that played on the characters of spice and banana in the way that Nagoriyuki did, yet that had the higher alcohol and fuller body needed for a cold Winters' night. We also talked about what Winter meant to us back in our Aomori days and how reports of an overnight snow dump on Mount Hakkoda gave us shivers of excitement. For Nagoriyuki's midwinter sister, "Miyuki" seemed fitting, indeed!
