A West Coast Double IPA with a complex and bright citrus and tropical fruit aroma
[Character]Citrus, floral, and tropical fruit notes are at the forefront of this Citra IPA, complimented by a dry and light malt base, with a touch of biscuity sweetness.[Naming]If IPAs were considered to be a show, there's no denying that the star of it is the hops. Normally it's more like a blend - a band, if you will - of multiple hops performing together. For this series, however, it's a solo artist - a "Hop Idol", if you will, showcasing their individual talents on the big stage. Who would you vote for?[Brewer's Voice]Who couldn't love a beer showcasing Citra? Citra is without doubt one of the most impactful hops that a brewer can have in their toolbox, and has essentially changed much of the modern IPA landscape. With this in mind, it's no surprise that it has now for some time been one of the most popular varieties. Citra was originally bred from 2 unnamed experimental hops all the way back in 1990, but didn’t see commercial availability until 2008. Since then it has exploded, with customers hooked on the punchy tropical fruit flavors, including passionfruit and even lychee, along with of course the blend of grapefruit and other citrus that lent to its name. For this beer's malt list, we used a Golden Promise base with some wheat and Vienna for some mild sweetness and body. We wanted this beer to be a shining example of what Citra had to offer so along side Citra pellets, we used Incognito and Cryo Citra, both of which go through different processes to concentrate the hop oils. Fermented with a London ale strain, we have a very juicy and tropical, citrus-forward IPA loaded that really lets youn know what Citra is all about.
